Project description:
The burden of disease from mental health disorders is the highest of any health problem worldwide, accounting for 13% of the total burden from alldiseases. Ensuring quality medical treatment of persons with mental health disorders is the obligation of the welfare state, the duty of professionalsand the right of patients. The practice of care for patients with mental disorders from marginalized groups varies greatly in Europe, and in Sloveniathere is a lack of integrated and continuous medical treatment of different groups of marginalized adults. The research problem is manifested in thelack of data on the needs of patients in relation to the range of services from the point of view of accessibility to services, the quality of medicaltreatment and the incidence and impact of prejudices, stereotypes of employees in the health sector on the stigmatization and discrimination ofpersons with mental health disorders, and the role of formal educators for professions in healthcare in the prevention of stigmatization anddiscriminatory behaviour of employees in the healthcare sector. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to identify the gap between the needs andcomprehensive, integrated and continuous medical treatment of various groups of marginalized adults in the field of mental health from the point ofview of regional accessibility in Slovenia and to prepare proposals for strategic documents in the field of mental health for comprehensive, integrated and continuous medical treatment of marginalized adults in the field of mental health from the point of view of ensuring regional accessibility in Slovenia.
A qualitative and quantitative research approach will be used. Scientific evidence will be obtained through a review of scientific and other sources onthe gaps between needs and care for the comprehensive health care of marginalized adults in the field of mental health. The analysis of the situationin the field of mental health to ensure comprehensive integrated and continuous medical treatment of marginalized adults in the field of mentalhealth from the point of view of regional accessibility in Slovenia will be conducted in a qualitative manner with a focus group and in-depthinterviews with all key actors or groups of stakeholders. The presence of taboos, stereotypes and prejudices, stigmatization and discrimination inhealth care towards marginalized groups in the field of mental health will be determined quantitatively by surveying students of health sciences andemployees in health care. Examples of good practice from Europe and beyond will be recognized, which will be contextualized to the Sloveniansituation in this area. As a key result, a model, a set of recommendations and measures will be developed for the sustainable provision ofcomprehensive integrated medical treatment of marginalized adults with mental health disorders.
The results of the project will help by providing new scientific evidence for targeted action, which will have an impact on science (new scientificevidence), economy (measures for the working population) and society (anti-stigmatization measures).
