Project description:
The central idea of this project is to develop peer-to-peer methods to support mental health literacy ja promote mental wellbeing. Mental health literacy is one of the key methods of promoting mental health. Previous research suggests that mental health literacy interventions positively effect mental health as they tend to strengthen positive aspects, support psychosocial well-being and close treatment gaps and challenges related to late detection and intervention in mental health problems.
Involving the target group (young people in this project) in the planning and implementation work will improve the effectiveness of the interventions. Peer work deepens support for mental well-being, as young people themselves get to know what is needed and how it should be raised. Sometimes it is easier to receive information when it comes from a peer rather than a professional.
Supporting the mental health of children and young people should be taken into account in all sectors of society. Mental health considerations must be taken into account in all societal decision-making and policies. Therefore, the methods and materials produced in the project are also suitable for other fields affecting young people, such as youth work, hobbies and sports.
The project also seeks equality through the virtual exchanges it uses. Virtual exchange allows children and young people to go international, even if they do not otherwise have the opportunity to travel to another country. The exchange experienced with the group is usually also a safe environment to internationalize.
The overall aim of the wExchange project is to develop peer-to-peer methods to support mental health literacy ja promote mental wellbeing. This work will be done together with pupils, so that the methods focus on everyday life of young people. The international project will provide perspectives on multicultural methods and needs of mental health literacy.
