Content description of the project:
Only integrated and palliative care provides comprehensive and continuous support to the patient throughout the treatment period of a progressive incurable disease, while providing support to those close to the patient. Comprehensive care includes addressing the psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the individual in addition to treating the physical symptoms. It is a dynamic process that constantly adapts to the current needs of the patient and his or her loved ones and effectively prevents new and unnecessary complications through active planning. He treats the patient individually, as a personality with his own experiences, values and beliefs. He supports the relatives both during the patient's illness and at the time of death itself, and afterwards during the period of mourning. According to modern guidelines, all patients with terminal illnesses should receive specific treatment as well as concurrent integrated and palliative care, which has been shown to improve quality of life and thus prolong survival.
In practice, it is evident that this content is not properly addressed and stigmatized. The terminally ill are left too much to themselves and their own resourcefulness and that of their loved ones. They are often not adequately supported by the profession because there are no systemic options that would provide these patients with comprehensive treatment by physicians and their colleagues.
